Shipping your belongings from Australia to New Zealand may seem like a big task, but with the right team behind you it can be very easy.
As New Zealand is one of the most popular relocation destinations for Australian expats, we have a wealth of experience with this process. Our team at Overseas Packers & Shippers are well-equipped to assist you with all of your removal needs, and can advise you on what the best shipping option is for you.
It is important that you opt for international removalists from Australia that are experienced and reliable. We have put together a comprehensive guide for your shipping options for shipping from Australia to New Zealand.
Full Container Load (FCL)
If you have an established larger home here in Australia, you will probably require the Full Container Load (FCL). The FCL comes in two sizes – a 20ft shipping container or a 40ft shipping container.
If you are moving a fully furnished three bedroom home from Australia to New Zealand, you will find the 20ft is sufficient. If you have a larger house, or are also planning to transport your vehicle, the 40ft will be your go to.
The FCL also has the added benefit of belonging only to you, so if you don’t want to share space with other people’s belongings, this is a good option.
Shared Container (Groupage)
Groupage is pretty simply explained as a shipping container that is shared between multiple groups. This is our most popular style of shipping.
This is a great option if you are only moving a room or two over from Australia to New Zealand. Before moving, many people like to cull down on unwanted furniture and items. The groupage option means that if you have done this you don’t have to fill out an entire container.
The Groupage option is the most cost effective way to ship your belongings from Australia to New Zealand. You only pay for the space you use and the rest is paid for by other people also using the container.
Less Than a Container Load (LCL)
The LCL is the option that falls somewhere in the middle of both FCL and Groupage.
LCL is when you have less than a full container, but do not want to opt for groupage. Cost wise, it is more expensive than Groupage as you aren’t sharing the space, but less expensive than FCL as it weighs less. Sometimes people may opt for an LCL as it can mean a faster delivery as you don’t have to wait to consolidate your belongings for Groupage.
LCL isn’t for everyone, but if you are time short and are willing to pay a little more to get your belongings faster it can be a good option.
The best way to get an idea of shipping times is to consult your international removalists. Estimates can change day to day, so we will keep you updated on what the best option is for you.
Air Freight
Air Freight is the most expensive but fastest method of moving your belongings from Australia to New Zealand.
If money is no object, or if the need to have your belongings as soon as possible outweighs the cost, we would recommend this. We can advise you on your air freight options and give you an idea of what to expect cost wise and time wise.
